Abstract: 85% of the Australian population see a GP every year, which makes general practice the largest and most comprehensive information source available. Yet it is rarely used, and policy decisions (and research) are based on many proxy measures. Utilising the POLAR program as an exemplar – this presentation discusses the enormous potential of the data contained on 7,000 separate computers, using 23 different clinical systems, with information from 24 million unique individuals. From lifeworld to system, from data to wisdom, better use of GP data is a must.
