CASE STUDY SUGGESTS RESEARCHERS WAIT TWO YEARS FOR HEALTH DATA ACCESS
|
The article posted on the Flying Blind website as an ethical quagmire case study, suggests researchers are sacrificing significant amounts of their paid and unpaid time to negotiate health data access for research purposes. The case study examines a teaching academic who began the journey following the researcher’s idea to use linked health data to measure the cost of a specific incident. Accessing this data took 1,456 hours which amounts to approximately 2 years and $145,600. The blog was a guest post as part of the Flying Blind website, which is a series of three reports dedicated to uncovering the acute levels of data fragmentation existing at all levels of Australia’s health landscape.
