Seminar Date: Tuesday May 31 2016, 12.00pm

Abstract: Our digital behaviour, including social media use, internet activity, mobile phones and other device usage, is increasingly being utilised for insight into the mental health of individuals and populations. The wealth of routinely generated data is ripe for analysis. This presentation will give an overview of the use of social media for mental health research, in particular, for suicide prevention.  The ways in which social media data can be used to inform public policy and provide insights into individuals’ emotional states will be explored. The ethical implications of this activity will also be discussed.
